What does this mean?

This is a late 19th century, Arts & Crafts constructed Italianate 'cassone' style chest that is made in the Renaissance Revival style. A Renaissance era 'cassone' was a wedding chest and would have been filled with dowry items such as textiles and silver in that era; they were traditionally placed in the bedroom. It was quite popular at the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century to make these Revival style chests for home decor.
