Hand-Painted, Jeweled Ceramic Plate
19 January 2019
Description

9" diameter and approximately 1/2 " tall. I believe it's ceramic or made from some type of stone. The ceramic material has tiny sparkles throughout. The top of the plate appears to be hand painted, with what looks like thick gold paint (or gold), and blue, green and orange-red paint. It is a blue peacock with gold and green feathers (plumes) and the outer rims have two conyinuous patterns using gold and orange/red. There are dozens of what appear to be clear gemstones (possibly diamonds, or just stones made to look like diamonds). I thought I should get it appraised in case it is valuable. I'd like to date it, find out who made it, find out if the paint is real gold and if it uses real diamonds, and get an estimated value. I don't recognize the markings on back.

What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a hand decorated marble plate from Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The design was completely painted by hand, using opaque and transparent colours and most likely a pot metal colour that looks like gold. The stones are simply cut crystal glass, similar to the type used in faux jewelry. The leaves outlines on the back are possibly just a test painting, not a signature. Production date should be second half 20th century. Marble plates with stone inlay from India are surprisingly inexpensive, the estimate is based on actural current market prices for similar
