Indian kalamkari palampore textile wall hanging bed covering
This consists of two panels sewn together and the fabric appears to be a glazed chintz ,It depicts a tree of life with zebras , deer and flowers .It is stamped made in India on the reverse side border
I found this at the estate of a prominent family in a small city in Illinois .It was in a trunk that had been un opened for decades, that was full of fabric, mostly yardage form the 1920s .There were many asian antiquities and other items in the house that dates form the 18th century .One family residd in this house for over a century and nothing was ever removed form the house

A painted and hand block printed handwoven fabric from India, a so called palampore bed-cover made in the kalamkari technique. The stamp "made in India" indicates that the fabric was made after 1890 for export. The Tariff Act of 1890, commonly called the McKinley Tariff, became law in 1890 and required that goods should bear in legible english the country of origin. Another similar palampore of two joined panels sold for 150 USD at auction a few years back.
