What does this mean?

This is a late 19th century, Victorian era, circa 1885 - 1890, Japanese pottery vase from the late Meiji Period. It is likely ceramic with tri-foot base. The decoration of birds and morning glory type flowers was hand painted. The raised areas of paint are enameled and referred to as moriage. The characters on the underside indicate Nichi Hon Nippon, or Made in Japan. Although the gold is real, there is no longer a precious metal meltdown value as the cost to extract the gold would exceed the value of the amount extracted. There is significant damage to the piece which impacts the value greatly to the point that there is little re-sale value left. The estimate is based on if this was in excellent, undamaged condition and past actual auction sales of comparables. True value in this damaged condition is less than $5.
