What does this mean?

This is a large, antique, 3rd quarter 19th century, Victorian era upholstered gentlemen's armchair. It has pierced carved or reticulated decorative gallery beneath each arm and a squared off and carved crest rail at chair back. This would have likely come in a matching set with a ladie's chair and settee for a parlour set. The wood is possibly mahogany or walnut - the lighting in the images hampers identifying the wood. This does appear to have been re-upholstered later in the 20th century. The Victorian furniture market is currently slumped. Pieces, even the original period pieces, do not sell for what they used to sell for a few decades ago. The market was further impacted by the Recession. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
