Dining Table
28 January 2019
Description

The table is 50” wide and 127” long and consists of three components: - A half round end with a leaf - A middle section with a leaf * - A half round end with no leaf Each of the sections with leaves has two gate-legs which swing to support the leaves when raised. When down the leaves hang vertically to the ground and are not removed. Sections join with U-shaped brass connectors. *The middle section appears to originally have been setup for two leaves – with a second leaf of the same size, the table would be 153” long. Table appears to be constructed of mahogany in very wide width planks and is finished in lacquer. Detail is simple, with banding around the table apron and on the legs. All the hardware is brass, including the screws used to fasten the top. Family lore say the table was acquired in Europe by my great uncle and aunt sometime in the 1920s and was believed to be ‘old’ when acquired. It was brought to Texas and used for official entertaining – my great uncle was the Danish Counsel in Houston in the 20s and 30s.

What does this mean?

Dear Darrel,

Thank you for your request. The presented object is a three segmented dining table with the measurements of 50” wide and 127” long. It was made in the first half of the 20th century and probably made out of mahogany wood.
This piece is in medium condition and there are little damages visible.
An estimation would be between 200 to 400 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

With best regards,
Georg
