James Tufts TriplePlate Card Receiver
Description

The stamp on the bottom reads James W Tufts Boston Warranted Triple Plate #2597. I believe the tray top is one of his pieces with gold inlay. The tray is attached but needs a repair to keep it horizontal.

What does this mean?

This is an antique, late 19th century, about 1880s, Victorian era, Aesthetic Movement style visitor calling card receiver tray mounted on pedestal with a cast perched bird figure at base by James Tufts of Boston done in triple plate. When visitors came to a home unscheduled, they would leave their card with name on it in such receiver trays. The estimate factors in the condition issue and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
